Message From the Lay Leader February 2024

I was listening to a couple journalists note that the average New Years’s resolution commitment
lasts approximately three-weeks and here we are in month two of a new year. The reality is
that we have failed at the whole resolution concept. We should consider setting goals and
focusing on faith, family and friends. 2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the
new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Consider strengthening your faith
and seeking all of the joy, peace, and grace that comes from a renewed relationship or a more
in-depth relationship with Christ. And possibly taking that faith to the next level by sharing that
relationship with others.
Next, enjoy and celebrate with family. 2024 can be a year to focus on the family by spending
time with those close to us and renewing family relationships. “Look at how good and pleasing
it is when families live together as one.” Psalm 133:1 The small moments can strengthen the
family bonds that are so important to the Christian way of life.
Friends many times are the glue that hold us together in this chaotic world. This includes
codifying our friendship with Christ and our faith walk. “Beloved, let us love one another, for
love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” 1John 4:7 True
friends give us a sense of belonging and are with us to share our sorrows as well as our joys and
accomplishments.
As I was writing this article it occurred to me that everything is connected setting 2024 goals
that include faith, family and friends help us grow and strengthen our walk with Christ. Each
lends itself improved physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
