Freeland Children’s Ministry Reboot

Like many other churches during Covid, the children’s ministry was shut down for 3 years. To jump start
getting kids (families) back into ministry, the church set forth a plan to build a schedule and get the
community interest up.

First was Children’s Church for the Lenten season. Children’s church was planned during the Sundays in
Lent for kids ages 4 – 4 th grade and takes place after the children’s sermon. The kids all walk out to a
classroom where there are stories, a project and maybe a snack during the adult sermon and end of
church.
We averaged 8-9 kids each week and had 12 kids on two different weeks. 48 He is Risen bags were given
out to kids at Easter and during the Bunny Brunch fundraiser the week before – complete with projects,
an invitation to the summer fun nights and VBS registration form.

VBS is on the calendar and 8 kids are already signed up as well as VOLUNTEERS!

The children’s calendar is scheduled out through December, complete with a children’s program.
Getting children excited about ministry includes having future events to look forward to in order to build
on the momentum. When kids have fun and there is another fun event planned, they invite friends and
the momentum continues to build.
Five youth were confirmed in the first confirmation class since 2014.
